Elegant Party Treats – Chocolate Cups

Chocolate cups can add an elegant touch to any party. The best thing about them is that they are hard to mess up! Here are some simple steps:

1. Gather your materials:

  • Chocolate (Wilton Melts work well)
  • Mini Cupcake Holders
  • Paint Brush (made for cooking)
  • Chocolate Moose or Other Filling

2. Melt your chocolate. I typically use Wilton Melts or semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can buy Wilton Melts at most craft stores (Hobby Lobby, Micheals). They come in white chocolate or regular chocolate. If you want to add some color to your cups, the white chocolate comes in different colors or you can color you own with an oil based food coloring.

Melt your chocolate in a mini crock pot or in the microwave. If you use a crock pot, make sure it is set on low and you don't forget to stir it every 10 to 15 minutes. If you use a microwave, heat for 30 seconds and stir, then repeat until your chocolate is melted. Make sure you don't get your chocolate too hot, or it will become lumpy and unusable. It doesn't take long to melt chocolate.

3. Pour your chocolate into the cupcake holders, filling them halfway full. Now, spread the chocolate up to the top of the cupcake holder, using your paint brush. They make special paint brushes to use with chocolate; you can find them at most craft stores with their chocolate candy molds. Make the top layers as thick as possible and then stick them in the refrigerator.

4. Refrigerate for 10 - 15 minutes.

5. Take your chocolate out of the molds. If you are using disposable molds, peel off. If you are using metal molds, carefully turn the pan upside down and flex the sides of the pan. If you do not have any chocolate cup fall out, then you can hit the pan on the counter a few times to release the cups. If you have any jagged edges that you want to smooth out, you can use a warm knife. To heat your knife, stick it in a cup of hot water for a few minutes and then wipe off the water.

6. Fill your cups. You can use chocolate moose, whip cream, fudge or whatever you'd like. You can spoon your filling inside or use a cake decorating bag and tip to fill your cup.
